Drugs? Susan likey!

Susan started her first round of chemo last night around 6 p.m. They started by giving her industrial-strength Benadryl which kicked in "in about two seconds!" Cindy's boyfriend's mom, a CoH nurse, stopped by, but Susan said she just could not keep her eyes open.

The next 10 hours were one long nap. "A very deep sleep" according to Susan. She's is up this morning and plans to take a shower and take her laptop downstairs (where there
is WiFi) and post before her next round of chemo starts around 11 a.m.

She sounds good! Do call before you head over—it sounds like she has just a few hours in between those long chunks of snoozing. She's be there through Sunday. And here's something good to know: visitors can purchase meal tickets so they can share lunch or dinner with patient pals.

I'm out for most of the day, but I'm sure Susan will post if she can.

Yay, Susan! Here's hoping it keeps going so well. We're all thinking of you.

Just talked to her and she's feeling "wonderful"! She was waiting for the Hope Hilton to bring her breakfast, ordered off of a room service menu of about 50 items.

Boy, have hospital stays changed for the better, or what?!

Her next chemo starts around noon, so I'm going to skedaddle over there as soon as I finish a 10 a.m. interview so I can catch her for a few minutes while she's awake.

Susan -
So, do they have you on a specific type of diet? Just wondering what kinds of foods they prefer during treatment. Is it a balance or do they try to avoid/promote certain foods? With a menu of 50 items, it sounds like a smorgasbord.

Susan,

I can't stop thinking about you. I'm glad day one went well and that food is still on your agenda. I hope I can help Cindy out with transportation because I enjoy chatting with her.

With all the beauty sleep you're going to get, you will be spectacular when you get out on Sunday!

Update on our City of Hope visit:

Skye and I just returned from a great visit. Susan's doing very well and we all chatted up a storm. Skye brought a book of candid photos that she shot at the party on Sunday and Susan just loved it. (Karen K aka "Mrs. Duck" I got to see your picture!)

Skye also made a bunch of copies of a photo of Susan and hung them in an envelope on the board in Susan's room - so take one if you go visit!

For visitors: Be aware that you must wash up (there's a sink outside her room) and put on gloves and mask before you go inside the room. She's pretty sure she will be there until Sunday or Monday.

Her in-room wi-fi is not working, and she's waiting for a technician to fix it, so she doesn't have access to the blog right now, but hopefully she will soon. She's eating well - she had oatmeal for breakfast and ordered mac-and-cheese for lunch. It didn't sound like her diet was restricted at all.

They were starting the second round of chemo just as we left and Cindy and Andrew arrived. Her nurse, Nicki, gave her Atavan before the chemo and I think that makes her pretty groggy, so I'd recommend calling Nicki beforehand to see if she's awake if you plan to visit later today (visiting hours until 8 p.m.)

I'm amazed and so glad to hear you are feeling well. Wonderful drugs! Do you stay in bed all the time? That can get pretty old after a few days. I will make something to bring over for dinner this week, I guess George is the one to check with on that?
