The Skinny on Susan

I've finally tapered off the Prednisone, and none too soon. Since my last post, "Bring on the Calories," I've continued on my binge eating "Booty or Bust" food tour of Los Angeles. But in spite of going hog wild over high fat foods, the needle of the scale moved two more pounds in the wrong direction yesterday. (I'm down to 118, according to the scales at CoH.)

It seems that the plight of a rail-thin woman eating her way through Los Angeles in pursuit of pounds (and curves) is not generating a lot of sympathy. I was trying to think of a few items that might evoke even less sympathy:
  • Britney can't manage to save any of her $737,000 monthly income (according to US News & World Report).
  • If John Edwards won the presidential election, he'd have to downsize from his 25,000-square-foot mega-house to move into the White House.
  • Angelina Jolie was snubbed by the Oscars.

What would you add to the list?

I'm also glad to be off the steroids because I don't feel like "myself." I haven't experienced any of that "inappropriate happiness," but I've felt lethargic on the outside with a calorie-burning motor racing on the inside. The end result is a snappy impatience that I usually save for my closest family members. I nearly got into a bathroom brawl with the hipster mom of a toddler in Silver Lake. I was itching to get into a fight with a man at the bar at Smitty's (but walked away instead).

The best news and cause for celebration and appropriate happiness are my blood counts. I look at them and can't believe they belong to me! I'll never call my stem cells "sluggish" or "under achievers" again.

Wow - Your blood counts are normal????? Do you think the medication you've been taking since you got sick a few weeks ago helped? Maybe it was the noodles.

I think my stem cells have just decided to do their thing, which, of course, is pumping out those WBCs, RBCs and platelets.

I was going to credit the ramen (giving me one more good excuse to make the drive), but I ate those after the blood draw.

Okay, that's it! I'm eating my way through LA, too!!! I think I'll start with ramen from Mitsuwa (maybe tomorrow, since I'll be in LA anyways for an appointment.) Your counts are fab!!! I can't believe how high they are. You and Ann are leaving me in the dust.... Keep up the good work and whatever you are doing... keep it up. Take Care...

Booty or Bust?

Why not aim for the stars? Booty AND Bust! You may end up being the Vargas Girl of Altadena.

Way to go, Susan! Your numbers look great. I'm so jealous that you have great ramen so near. I'd kill for some decent pho down here. Keep feeding those baby stem cells. :)

Hmmmm... here are some mighty unsympathetic things ... much more unsympathetic than Susan not putting on weight despite eating like an entire army:

Paris Hilton, doing or not doing anything at all.

A Release Group (which is a group that uploads stolen movies onto the Internet) crying "foul" because a competing group tried to take credit for stealing a movie that the first group really stole. (This has actually happened.)

Camilla Parker Bowles, feeling bad because the public doesn't love her.

The six-time winner of the annual Nathan's hot-dog eating contest losing in 2007, because of a jaw injury. (That actually happened, too. He lost to someone who ate 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes. Yikes!)

A class action law firm complaining because it only got paid a few hundred million dollars, instead of more than $1 Billion, after settling a tobacco lawsuit. (That actually happened, too, believe it or not. The law firm sued the state of Massachusetts (which was the law firm's client) for a bigger part of the recovery!)

So, Susan, your little indiscretion in not gaining weight is easily forgiven! Especially since you write such entertaining posts about it! How can anyone complain? We get to read wonderful food articles, and feel tantalized and thrilled, and we don't put on any weight, either! (For a change.)

Ann, the minute you can come to LA, Nancy and I will take you on a Pho tour.

Mrs. Duck, these are great "cry me a river" contributions. I knew I could count on you!

Congratulations on your awesome numbers! It probably is because you're eating at all the right noodle spots! :)

Hi Susan. Sorry it's been awhile since I've checked in. So glad to hear your cells are back on their feet! (Do cells have feet?) Hey, I have an idea for you: What about creating a new kind of Zagat guide? Los Angeles, Booty and Bust...a food guide for those who care more about flavor then fat count. (The log line isn't great...but you can see where I'm going with this right?) Have you tried any of the souffles at the Moustache Cafe? Oh my god! They are a must have!
